What will I learn in the Workshop?
Mark Gostkiewicz, the Co-Founder of Tri Gable Lea Farm LLC will be presenting this class. Mark has been growing mushrooms outdoors and indoors since 2014. In this fun class, he'll walk-through a bunch of projects large and small and give you the gist of what to do, what you need, and what to look for.
In this class we will discuss...
- The life cycle and needs of fungi
- How to get spawn and/or fungal tissue or cultures to start your projects
- Common mushroom species to try first
- How to use cardboard boxes, toilet paper/paper towels, and old clothing to grow mushrooms.
- How to use straw or wood chips to grow mushrooms in your garden
- How to use all parts of a tree from stump to twig to use storm waste to grow mushrooms
- Patterns in projects - growing mushrooms in your basement vs outdoors
- Using common household tools/supplies & learning about some simple/inexpensive upgrades to help with success
- Safety procedures you need to follow & warning signs something has gone wrong. This includes an emphasis on proper identification & having a "when in doubt - throw it out" attitude.
