About The Teacher

Josh Strecker is a highly-trained educator. 8 years ago he bought a house that happened to be placed in a grove of maple trees, and the rest is history.  He's happy to share his first-hand knowledge and experiences with you in the hopes of helping you enjoy maple syrup as a hobby.

What will I learn in the Workshop?

This workshop will walk you through the process of making maple syrup from start to finish, including an emphasis on key points to consider before tapping your first tree.  You will see and handle equipment and tools meant for the production of syrup for personal use and as a hobby - not commercial production.  The presenter will share about...

  • Planning for your season, including productive trees and yields
  • Gathering and preparing equipment with relative costs and an emphasis on low-cost solutions
  • Tapping trees, including a hands-on demonstration
  • Sap collection methods with tips and tricks
  • Turning sap into syrup, including hot and cold separation
  • Filtering and canning the syrup
  • Removing spiles at the end of your season

    Other Notes About Our Workshops

    Because you are paying for a seat at the class, we hope you understand that we only refund your purchase if a class is canceled by us. If the class is postponed to another day, or the time of day is changed, we will do our best to let you know in advance. If for some reason you cannot attend, let us know, we will not refund your money, but we may be able to offer you an alternative date, apply your tuition toward a mushroom purchase, or help you in another way. We are reasonable people and expect that reasonable people are attending these classes. Do not purchase from us if you are an unreasonable person.
