What will I learn in the Workshop?

Mark Gostkiewicz, the Co-Founder of Tri Gable Lea Farm LLC will be presenting this class. Mark has been growing mushrooms outdoors and indoors since 2014. In this fun class, he'll walk-through a bunch of projects large and small and give you the gist of what to do, what you need, and what to look for.

In this class we will discuss...

  • The life cycle and needs of fungi
  • How to get spawn and/or fungal tissue or cultures to start your projects
  • Common mushroom species to try first
  • How to use cardboard boxes, toilet paper/paper towels, and old clothing to grow mushrooms.
  • How to use straw or wood chips to grow mushrooms in your garden
  • How to use all parts of a tree from stump to twig to use storm waste to grow mushrooms
  • Patterns in projects - growing mushrooms in your basement vs outdoors
  • Using common household tools/supplies & learning about some simple/inexpensive upgrades to help with success
  • Safety procedures you need to follow & warning signs something has gone wrong. This includes an emphasis on proper identification & having a "when in doubt - throw it out" attitude.
  • Curated resources/recommendations for further learning
