This frame can be used inside the hive for winter feeding. It's simple and versatile design can be used for your method. The frame is as deep as a top bar, made with 1/2" hardware cloth, and slightly smaller than a follower board. This space allows the bees to  go around the bar, but it's not so much space that they'd want to fill it or attach it with comb. 

This frame can be used to feed with:

• Simple hard candy can be poured into it as it rest on wax paper. Best to pour it at a low temperature and tape the wax paper up and over the edges of the frame. Even better, screw a solid board to the back, pour in the candy, and then unscrew the board.
• Fondant can be molded into the wire for support.
• Protein patties/mixes can be molded onto the wire as well.
• If you're creative, feeding with a bag of syrup can be done if the plastic bag is zip tied onto the frame.
